After learning of the passing of this great Rabbi, I feel I must extend my deepest sympathy to Shaindel, who for many years was a very special patient and friend. It was also a great honor for me to have helped Rabbi Blumenkrantz with the writing of "Gefen Porioh" the Laws of Niddah, and taking care of so many of his congregants in Far Rockaway.

One friday night my ten year old asked me a kasha on Chumash that I couldn't answer. I suggested he ask Rabbi Blumnekrantz after shacharis. My son did just that. Rabbi Blumenkrantz got so much nachas from my son's Kashah, an my son felt so important because rabii blumnekrantz took the time to acknoilwdge a ten year old question, that my son decided to bring kashas and sheilos to Rabbi Blumenkrantz every week. t became a regular thing every shabbos.

"Rabbi Blumenkrantz’s ZT’L Petira is a devastating loss to Klal Yisrael"

- other than the Pesach books, what you can tell us about him?

I hate to bring up something negative, but I do so because of its importance to Klal Yisrael. I've heard from friends of Rav Blumenkrantz that he died of complications brought on by type 2 diabetes.

When we think of the loss to the Jewish people in this time, as well as the loss to his family and those who knew him not just as a book on Passover, but a Father, a Husband, a Rab and a Friend we need to think how our leadership needs to push the idea, just as we are makpid not to eat Hametz of Passover we need to be makpid on a healthy diet and exercise.

Yes going to a gym takes time from morning learning. G-d knows I would prefer to be learning before Shacharit than at a gym. At morning shiur this morning I wanted the Krispy Creme Donuts (and thank my chavrusa who reminded me I don't want that (I too have type 2 diabetes) but how many more years will I have for learning by taking care of myself, and how many have I lost because I didn't start watching myself until I was diagnosed with Diabetes.

Rambam preaches the importance of healthy living in the Mishna Torah, yet our yeshiva kitchens serve students the most unhealthy starchy fatty meals. They don't have gyms and Rabbonim posken its not tzniut to work out at a gym. Physical Health is a pre requisite Spiritual Health.

Rabbi Blumenkrantz's ZT'L Petira is a devastating loss to Klal Yisrael. He was a lovely, wonderful, kind and wise man who will be sorely missed. He was my Rav and MeSader Kedushin when my husband and I married. Our hearts go out to his wife and children. May his memory be for a blessing.

The Levaya is at 9:30 am this morning at his Shul in Far Rockaway. The Aron will be brought to Eretz Yisrael for Kevura on Sunday evening [leaving NYC on Motzaei Shabbos]. More details at Yeshiva World or Vos is Neis.

I met him once as a yeshiva bochur many years ago. I still think of his kind demeanor to this day.
