President Ford got along with Jews-in fact he had the unfortunate distinction of presenting an award to a major awardee who dropped dead at the podium while receiving the award. I remeber the next morning on CBS Radio News the commentary about "Death Strikes in the middle of the night"-would have been intereting and not inconsistent with a good Yamim noraim drash.
One should also note like the Israeli press has since Fords passing that he was the first one to call for a "reappraisal" of the relationship with Israel.
