I discovered for the first time this year that the final Shema Yisrael at the end of Ne'ila, according to the Shlah Hakadosh, is considered to be equivalent to giving oneself over to martyrdom Al Kiddush Hashem. One should have the appropriate intention while saying it and then you get credited with this tremendous merit even if you die in bed at age 100. I saw this brought down in the Chabad machzor. Worth bearing in mind for future years.
